IU South Bend “values excellence in teaching, student-faculty interaction, research and creative activity, diversity and inclusivity, a global perspective, and collaboration in life-long learning” (“History & Mission”). Keeping in mind IU South Bend’s mission and reflecting upon the IU South Bend Varsity Soccer Jersey displayed, the points made in the mission provided can be resembled in more ways than one through the jersey. When given the opportunity to be studied in more meaning than that merely of just an old jersey, the jersey alone also shows how clothing ideas or fashions and technologies have advanced within only the last twenty five years or so. Exploring the connection of IU South Bend’s mission and the correlation to any object is quite a creative idea and also allows all other readers or viewers to reflect upon what IU South Bend means to them and the experiences that they have had. In all, it can be said that “IU South Bend develops engaged citizens prepared to build strong communities” (“History & Mission”).

IU South Bend invites all students to participate in all activities on campus to enhance the experience that each individual has while attending IU South Bend. Participating in activities encourages a healthy student to faculty bond, as well as promoting a relationship between students (or in this case, player to player bonding). IU South Bend stresses the importance of displaying professionalism in all activities, but yet emphasizes the importance of having fun with all sporting activities. Being a part of a sports team allows for students to think critically on and off the field and develop creative techniques for succeeding and obtaining an overall well experience at IU South Bend and beyond. Lastly, as stated in the “History & Mission” provided above and on IU South Bend’s website, “IU South Bend develops engaged citizens prepared to build strong communities”, which is precisely how IU South Bend includes a global perspective and collaboration in life-long learning in all activities, sports or not, that the campus holds.

When reflecting upon the IU South Bend 1989 Varsity Soccer Jersey, the IU South Bend mission comes to mind. There is a correlation between the mission and the ideas that people currently possess when sports are addressed. Whether participating in an activity, being a member of a team (maybe a Varsity Soccer Team), or even just attending IU South Bend alone prepares individuals to become active members of communities and build stronger communities.
