The diploma is the proof of graduation. As such, it represents the culmination of all of the time, money, and effort that has gone into furthering one's education. It also represents the end results; the knowledge that has been gained, the pride, the prestige, and (hopefully) the future successes to be gained as well. Getting a degree for a better future is why most people go to a university like IUSB, after all.

Although Indiana University began offering classes in South Bend in 1922, it only existed as a starter school. Students hoping to graduate would have to go to Bloomington in order to finish their degree and receive their diploma. It wasn't until 1965 that the Indiana General Assembly authorized Indiana University to have full degree-granting programs at its regional campuses like IUSB. The first degrees from IUSB were then granted in 1967.

This particular diploma was earned from IUSB at the end of 2008. Since the University wants to make sure it won't be sending out diplomas erroneously, there is a bit of a time delay from commencement to when a diploma is received. Thus, this particular diploma likely wasn't printed until early 2009.
